NSG Waiver - A Shot in the Arm

The concession India got from the Nuclear Suppliers Group is a clear indication of where we stand in the international arena. It is an acknowledgement from the world that nobody can stop India from becoming a super power in the years to come. While the whole world was celebrating this waiver there are some gloomy faces around lamenting the decision of NSG granting the waiver. The first one is our esteemed neighbour for reasons best known. The second one is China, which tried its level best till the last moment to see that the waiver is not granted and the reason for this is simple. They dont want another superpower emerging in South Asia which can thwart its dominance. Its allegiance to Pakistan is not unknown. And surprisingly, the third bunch is our very own people. The opposition parties as a whole. I feel none of them behaved responsibly in their reactions to the waiver. This is politics at its worst. Firstly it is the "Notes for the Votes" scandal which has thrown the image of our democracy into ignominy. And then came the BJP and Left attitude. The NSG waiver is something which should be cherished by every Indian irrespective of caste, party and region. At no moment at the No-confidence motion, and before or after that, did the leader of the opposition Mr LK Advani oppose the nuclear deal categorically, for he fully knows how important the deal is for the nation's energy security. Atleast Left scores some marks for its consistency in opposing the deal. BJP fails in its duty to play its part as a responsible opposition. And for the Left and its leaders, the lesser said is better. We must welcome this achievement of our Government and diplomats and thank Mr Bush for his part in backing India. Last but not the least, our own PM Dr Manmohan Singh, with out the perseverance of whom it would not have been possible. We all can say for sure now that SINGH is the real KING.
